VVA 885 volunteers in the community

Whether it’s celebrating the lives of service members at Wilmington National Cemetery or helping veterans and their families with claims, chapter members step up

About Us

VVA Chapter 885 is dedicated to the premise that “never again will one generation of veterans abandon another.” VVA 885 welcomes all our brothers and sisters who served in Vietnam between Nov. 1, 1955 and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between Aug. 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975.

Veteran Services

The Benefits Team provides assistance to veterans and their families with filing claims and obtaining benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (the VA). Specially trained veteran service officers have experience in areas such as Agent Orange, Bluewater sailors, Camp Lejeune water, and burn pits.

VA Clinic volunteers

Five VVA Chapter 885 members work weekly four-hour volunteer shifts at the Wilmington VA Clinic, 1705 Gardner Road. Training plus a full background check are required. Their purpose is direct and assist any incoming patients

Outreach

VVA 885 members visit veterans at nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout the Cape Fear region. The Chapter also provides scholarships for high school JROTC students and area college students.
